Economic & downtown revitalization
Empty storefronts are a revenue problem. Three moves, starting in the first year of the term.
“Business Back to Main Street”
An urgent program to fill vacant units, one point of contact at the Town for anyone trying to open a business downtown, and a hard look at the approvals that slow them down.
Beautify the streetscape
Planting, lighting, seating and signage that make Main Street somewhere people linger, delivered in visible stages, not as one distant master plan.
Capture the train
The Ontario Northlander train is returning. Visitors who step off it should find a walkable, open, worth-staying-in downtown, and spend their money here.
A station is only an opportunity if the town is ready for it.
Rail service brings visitors without cars, people who walk, eat, shop and stay close to where they arrive. That is exactly the customer a revitalized Main Street needs, and exactly the one we lose if storefronts stay dark.
What a beautified Main Street could look like
The campaign is preparing illustrative concepts for the downtown streetscape. They are conversation starters, nothing on this page implies a required upgrade for any private property or business owner. Participation in any beautification program would be entirely voluntary.
